Endoscopic Spine Surgery Case: L4-L5 Nerve Compression Relief in 58-Year-Old Woman
Patient Snapshot
58 year old female with severe left leg pain (radiating down the limb) for over 1 year, impacting daily life and mobility.
Medical Journey
The patient was suffering from continuous left lower limb radiculopathy for 12 months. Despite drugs and physical therapy, its symptoms have deteriorated over time, with increasing difficulty in walking and standing longer.
Diagnosis
MRI scans showed lateral recess stenosis at the L4-L5 level, a narrowing of the space around the nerve root, leading to compression of the nerve and causing her symptoms.
Surgical Treatment Plan
- Minimally invasive Endoscopic Spine Surgery (UBE technique)
- Lateral recess decompression and mobilisation of the compressed nerve root
- Small incision, quicker recovery, minimal blood loss
Summary
The surgery was performed successfully. Postoperatively, the patient experienced immediate pain relief and improved leg function. She recovered well and is now able to perform her daily activities with ease.
